Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman
Professor Attahiru Jega has just announced the date of the Anambra state
supplementary governorship election - Saturday, November 30. He made
the declaration at a press conference in Abuja.
It will
be recalled that the Saturday-Sunday poll was cancelled in some areas of
Anambra state due to the irregularities in terms of election conduct.
It
was declared on Monday, November 18, that the governorship election was
inconclusive, as no candidate polled the statutory 25 percent of votes
in two-third of the 21 local government areas in the state. Thus, the
commission ruled out, the winner cannot be declared yet.
Prof. Jega also admitted that the INEC failed to perform to the expectations of Nigerians in the election.
Due to the large number of cancelled votes, 113,113, no candidate scored the required percentage.
23 candidates participated in the election.
The APGA won in 16 of the 21 local government areas; PDP won in two, APC won in two, while LP won one.
